Report written by Paul Davies
Nene Valley MCC held their annual Ravensoake Trial at Duck End, nr Cranford on Sunday. This was the final round of the club championship and a round of the South Midlands Centre Youth championship round. With 65 riders attending for what was to be a great day for everyone. The weather report for Sunday was rain falling overnight with showers on the day; the trial was set out on Saturday with these conditions in mind. Luckily for all it stayed dry on the day, which made for a lower scoring trial than expected. The trial was 4 laps of 10 sections.
Section 5 was a brand new section and did take a few marks on the day with its big clay climbs and drops becoming slippery as the trial progressed. Section 9 was also a brand new section and was a more technical section as opposed to big climbs. This section however did not take many marks from any of the classes as the conditions remained dry.
The Expert class was won by Club Chairman Steve Swanson who managed the only clean sheet on the day, followed by Chas Lee in second place with only a single mark lost; Nick Day came in third place with 3 marks lost.
The 50/50 class was won by James Philo who dropped only 6 marks, followed in second place by Billy Bishop with 8 marks lost and Stephen Young came in third place with 21 marks lost.
The Inter class was won by Josh Hewitt with 13 marks lost, followed in second place by Paul Baldwin with 14 marks lost. Third place went to Chris Teseres who dropped 17 marks.
The Clubman class was a very low scoring class with the first five riders all losing only a single dab. The result was decided on the furthest clean rule. Once sorted the top three riders were Chris Aylott finishing in first place with Simon Dowling in second place and Malcolm Evely in third place.
The Novice class was won by Andrew Lancaster who lost only 2 marks, Second place went to Richard Carpenter who dropped 4 marks and third place went to Colin Ridgeway who dropped 5 marks.
The Easy route was won by Doug Theobald with 4 marks lost, he was followed by Mark Willis in second place who lost 8 marks, third place went to Bryan Devereux who lost 13 marks.
The Youth B Class was won by Harry Coleman who dropped only 9 marks, second place went to Bob Devereux who dropped 14 marks; third place went to Conor Gibbons who dropped 17 marks.
The Youth C Class was won by Sam Bushnell who dropped 52 marks.
The E Class conducted route was won by Alfie Ray Turner who rode the 40 conducted sections for 122 marks lost; he was followed by Penny Devereux in second place who lost 163 marks.
